It had literally been more than a lifetime from a human's perspective since Faolan had stepped into the Mirian Academy of the Arcane. After the king's death he'd felt something stirring, probably just in himself, but either way there needed some changes to be done. He wanted to up his own skills to be more sutable for combat, and after a long search in his demons' dimension he'd found a massive thunderstorm that seemingly had been raging since before Alva was a thing.
The problem was just to establish a way to draw use of this storm. Lightning did not behave like hellfire. It would need a completely different kind of portal, and he felt like he needed to discuss this project with someone who knew what they were talking about without being too narrowminded - he had been talking to a few colleagues, but they were too specialized within their own fields to be able to think out of the box, and it would take too long to search for such a particular case in a book if he ever found one, plus it could never fully prepare him for the real deal.
Anyway, he had sent a letter about the issue some time ago, and gotten a positive reply in return. The only thing left to chance was that whether the help he would get would be sufficient.
Once inside the building he realized that the place did not look like he remembered it. Could be renovation, could be that time had altered his memory. Nevermind, he was expected, so he just needed to find a figure of authority to direct him.
